Game Three for the Eagle Boys Lacrosse team came after a long Spring and Easter Break lay-off. The first period showed the rust. We fell to a 5-0 deficit to an experienced and talented Bulldog team. The defense sprang back from this early setback to keep the total goals against to a season low of 8. There were fewer open looks and by keeping our opponent to less than 10 goals we gave ourselves a chance to be in the game. A big part of that effort was from our new recruit and goalie, Isaiah Hernandez. He is one of our youngest players and playing “up” in the Senior Blue Division of the Central Texas Youth Lacrosse Association (CTYLA) league.

DSC02707The Eagle Offense responded with a couple of goals – our first of the season. Another step forward. Benjamin Gonzales received a game ball for getting us going and Gregory Lott beat the buzzer with a late goal to give us two on the day.

We have thinned the roster after Spring Break to seventeen. One of the results seemed to be that the team worked as a team more often. This was evident in trusting each other making and catching passes. We had a successful assist by Michael Gutierrez on our first goal – another first for us this season. A significant by-product of our smaller roster is that we had fewer subs than we would have liked. The boys definitely left it all on the field – everyone on the team was exhausted at the end.

The fans enjoyed the game and Big Shoutout goes to one of our biggest boosters, Ms. Sharon, Raymond Guedea’s mom, for being sure the team had plenty to drink and snack on during half-time and after the game.

All in all, we took some big steps forward and our team has something upon which we can build. Our next contest is against The Trojans from northwest Austin. The game starts at 1:30 at Martin Middle School.
