Highlands High School in San Antonio is lucky to have Instructor Mary Mattia. Several student athletes are lucky that she also played lacrosse at the collegiate level.  With the help and initiative of some seniors that wanted to make their final year special and some interested underclassmen, Coach Mattia has helped to start a boys lacrosse program at the school. That team is now competing in Division III of the San Antonio District of the Texas High School Lacrosse League.

New Horizons has been able to help support this effort through it’s Equipment Loan Program. Helmets and chest/shoulder protectors for 10 players along with nine pairs of gloves and elbow pads filled in the gaps so that these student-athletes could play their first game recently.

New Horizons targets federally designated Title I schools in Central Texas.  It is through the generosity of the Austin area high school lacrosse teams that this gently used and new equipment was made available. Thanks to them and good luck to the Owls on their inaugural season.
