The Lady Eagles had their second game on Sunday. Again, there was a strong turnout, our high attendance so far, of twenty girls. We had plenty of fresh legs on the sidelines – three full lines of middies. The spirits were high as we traveled to St. Stephens Episcopal School in far West Austin. It is a beautiful venue.

DSC02790The start of the game caught us a little off our guard and several goals were scored as we tried to get comfortable on a new field with another team. The defense stiffened after we found ourselves down 5-0 early in the first half. We held them scoreless for the rest of the half and had a strong second half holding them to only 3 points the rest of the way, ending 8-0.

All the girls, EVERYONE, got better as the game went on. Bessy Villanueva took the draws and attacked the goal from beyond the mid-line several times. Natalia Cruz had a wrap-around goal that was waved off for being in the Goal Circle. Destiney Robinson had a solid day in-goal as did Natalie Santander playing defensive middie.

Prior to the game, Michael Murphy, President of the Capital Area Youth Girls Lacrosse League (CapLax) welcomed the Lady Eagles to the League and remarked on their role as Pioneers in our lacrosse community – being the first girls youth team to be made up entirely of girls that live in East Austin.

Go Lady Eagles! We look forward to another great experience.
