After a year of participation in soft-lacrosse in the After School Centers for Education (ACE) program, spring participation in regulation lacrosse practices and a 7 on 7 scrimmage, three boys received scholarships from Texas Heat Lacrosse (THL) to attend their 3-day University of North Carolina (UNC) Camp held in June at the West Austin Youth Association fields.

The spring season was a long one for all participants but these student athletes were consistent participants while other students experienced lacrosse from a less intensely. The boys received their first sticks/balls after camp and seemed eager to continue participation in lacrosse in the fall. At the camp, attended by youth and high school players from across central Texas, these players received basic instructions, playing situation opportunities and camaraderie as well as off-the-field emphasis on the importance of consistent effort, resilience and maintaining the right attitude. Coach Brain Holman, (Assist Coach at UNC – above), reminded the players to remember Family First, Academics Second and Lacrosse Third.

Thanks to Texas Heat Lacrosse for providing scholarships and to the After School Centers for Education program for providing transportation.
